What is Urban Playdates?
Urban Playdates is a social networking site geared specifically towards parents, caregivers, and those involved in raising children of color. Urban Playdates also provides resource, newsletters and news information.
There are many “mom” groups out there.Why was Urban Playdates created and what makes it different from the other groups?
Urban Playdates was created because there weren’t any social networking sites that specifically catered towards minority parents or those who were involved in raising minority children.

Additionally, we understand that there aren’t just mothers raising children and that all those who participate in child rearing need to connect, whether it’s for a playdate, or just to connect with likeminded parents and caregivers.

Lastly, we understand that there are many similarities in all children, but the reality is that there is a gap especially in academics and economics that continues to exist among minority children.
Who can join?
Anyone who is raising or involved in raising a child of color this includes mothers, fathers, aunt, foster-parents, adoptive parents, uncles, grandparents, godparents, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and counselors.
What is an avatar?
An avatar is a character that you can personalize and use when interacting on Urban Playdates. It’s like creating your own unique persona without uploading your picture. On your profile you can upload png, jpg or gif files. After that your avatar will begin to appear throughout the site (i.e. find friends, homepage, blogs etc.). Remember having an avatar allows your profile to get read more.
How do I meet other parents or caregivers?
Once you have signed-up you should head over to "Members" section. Here you will see a list of all Urban Playdates members, whose on-line, or you can search based on where you live. Once you have clicked on a member’s profile you can contact them by sending them sending them a letter, befriend, or greeting.
What are Groups?
The group section is a great place for those who share similar interest can meet (in one place) to communicate. It’s also a great place for off-line groups to use to communicate information about meetings, events, and activities. This saves time on website development and allows more time to focus on group members and less with technology. The benefits for members are that they have one place to log into to catch up on the latest group news.
I see the blog section what is that?
As a member you can write your own blog. A blog is like your own personal journal that you can share with other members of the site.

I want to invite friends to join Urban Playdates how does that work?
To invite friends to join Urban Playdates just click on the “invite friends” link which is located on in the top right corner. Fill in your name, email and your friend email. They will be sent an email with a link to UrbanPlaydates.
